Echo Hollow Music is a small, family owned business creating handcrafted canjos in Lenoir City, Tennessee. Jared and his wife, Laura, travel to craft shows in Tennessee and several surrounding states. Their son, Maddox, helps at craft shows by demonstrating the canjos along with Jared.
Jared Weaver began handcrafting canjos and dulcimers in 2001 as a hobby. In 2006, he started Echo Hollow Music and now shares his passion with others. He builds each canjo with great care using woods such as walnut, oak, and poplar. He also offers a variety of cans for you to choose from when ordering.
What is a canjo?
Great question! A canjo is a one-stringed dulcimer easily used by anyone — and we mean anyone! Each fret is numbered, and comes with a numbered song sheet and pick. To play the song, simply hold down the string at the appropriately numbered fret and pluck at the lower end of the string with a pick.
Canjos are a great start for people new to fretted instruments, but they are also fun for experienced musicians. You can play something as simple as Old MacDonald Had a Farm, or something more complex like Tennessee Waltz. Whether you’re a kid or an adult and whether you’re buying one for yourself or as a gift, a handcrafted canjo is perfect for anyone!
